Prom Goes Hollywood

Hollywood celebrities may get all the fashion accolades on the awards shows, but now prom goers are getting the star treatment, too. From the red carpet to the dance floor, the prom dresses this year are inspired by glamour girls of the past and present. And it's never too early to start getting the ball gowns rolling. Even if you're a little too old for the prom and just have a special occasion in your future, there are so many cocktail dresses trends to check out this coming season!

It's all about the hemlines. The long gowns may still rule this fashion scene, but flirty, short dresses are gaining in the popularity contest, and they may be the best way to show off those dance moves. But whether you choose long or short, the focus is on the bottom line...hemlines that are high in the front, low in the back. The newest way to wear the hi-low hemline is a long skirt layered over matching shorts — the best of both worlds.

It's all about the cropped tops. The two-piece dress is making a major statement this year. High-neck cropped tops that bare the midriff and team up with long skirts are definitely having a moment. Pull the skirt's waist up for more modest pictures with the parents! Start working on those abs now.

It's all about the shine. Beads, bangles and baubles. All-over shimmer and shine from head to toe is another stunning way to not only hit the red carpet but the dance floor, too. If you want a standout photo op, this is it. Sparkle is the way to glow.

It's all about the illusion. Being transparent is always a good thing, and this spring formal season, dresses are swathed in layers of sheerness — all strategically placed, of course. Whether it's part of a long skirt, or a dramatic back or a fluttering sleeve, the illusion of sheerness adds an air of mystery to these glamourous gowns.

It's all about the neckline. No matter the silhouette of the party dress — long and lean or short and A-line — the shoulders are sure to be in the spotlight. Think asymmetrical cold-shoulder looks, halters, deep plunges and strapless sweetheart designs.

It's all about color. Black is always a classic, and if you want to "recycle" a party dress, this is the way to go. Black is also a great background for all that sparkle and shine. White — another classic — is also stepping out at night in a big way. Then there are the blush nudes — neutrals that are barely there and perfect for spring flings. But if you're really ready to burst into a new season in a colorful way, try lemony yellow — a favorite of the Hollywood crowd at recent awards shows. Red (especially in the wine shades) also makes an entrance. And if you really don't care to be a wallflower, pick a dress splashed with tropical blooms that pack a colorful punch.

—It's all about the accessories. The best news? Lots of sparkly open-toe sandals with block heels...your twinkle toes will thank you when the clock strikes midnight and you kick them off and you don't have to hobble home. Add some long dangly tassel earrings and a tiny pouch purse, and all you have to do is take the perfect selfie for a night to remember.

The singer – who appeared on The X Factor in 2014 with her band Only The Young – looked sensational in a mismatched bikini.

She kept her eyes covered with a pair of oversized shades and let her long, blonde hair hang loose over her shoulders.

Betsy-Blue showed off her curves with a ruffled, gingham bikini top which she paired with a pair of black, string bikini briefs.

Wandering through the surf, the starlet looked deep in thought as she strolled along.

She later stopped and posed up for a couple of selfies.

Throwing her head back and pouting straight into the camera, Betsy-Blue oozed glamour.

Alongside her singing career Betsy runs a fashion blog called It’s Thursday Tho? and even has her own clothing range.

Speaking about her career, Betsy admitted she’s flat out with different projects, saying in December: “At present, I’m juggling a fashion and beauty blogging career, a music career, an acting career, a modelling career and a fashion design career.”

Her fashion line is something she’s worked incredibly hard on and Betsy is hoping to break through some misconceptions in the industry.

She explained: “Brand names do not matter.

“I’ve turned up to fashion shows and premieres in cheap prom dresses uk that have cost me £20 from stores like Beyond Retro, that I’ve altered myself to look like it’s been fitted especially for me.”

Even when she appeared on The X Factor, Betsy worked with the stylists and made sure her individuality shone through.

She said: “I got on so well with my stylists on X-Factor that they did listen to me.

“It was never the case that they picked something for me and I had to wear it.

“There were always options and I’d always have my pick. To be honest, when I was out shopping, I would send pictures to my stylists of what I liked weeks ahead of our performances.

“However, It was hard because I was in a band, I had to coordinate with the others, so I didn’t have quite the free reign.

“My style would have been completely different if I was on there as a soloist.

“But, I did used to be the first one in wardrobe every Friday morning out of every contestant picking my outfit. No one cared as much as me!”
