It happens like clockwork: the runway shows wrap up and fashion editors scramble to select the standout looks that took the FROW by storm. Then the fun starts - planning our outfits. The autumn-winter 2017 forecast promises a tantalising array of new trends, plus some twists on old ones. Take note, as these looks will undoubtedly shape next season's street style.
1. Seeing red
Consider your winter coat sorted. After multiple seasons of pinks, red has flooded the runways in deeply dramatic hues of oxblood, burgundy and crimson, most notably in delectable outwear at Fendi and Max Mara.
2. Adorned fur
For sheer luxury that can be worn day or night, fur stole the show at Michael Kors, Prada and Simone Rocha. With bedazzled brooches and colourful embellishments, we can assure you that these are far from your granny's furs.
3. Duvet coats
If you dream of having a duvet day, or at least wrapping yourself up as you head for the bus, you're in luck - come autumn, this will officially be an option. Last season's puffer coat has evolved, giving rise to more padded and quilted styles.
4. Architectural ruffles
Ruffles have made a seamless transition from spring but for the coming season they are bolder and more architectural, giving everything from day dresses and t-shirts to eveningwear a dramatic touch of femininity. Every style star worth her weight in Instagram likes will be adorned with these beauties, with Saint Laurent's sultry minidresses likely to be top of the wishlist.
5. Leather
Super soft leather was a recurring theme at the Paris shows. At YSL, it was part homage to the 80s but also a dramatic step into the future, where leather mini dresses come with sculptural sleeves and shearling lining. Taking over the Louvre, Nicolas Ghesquiere presented long, polished coats and chain-trimmed jackets at Louis Vuitton.
6. Oversized
The female fashion crowd are notorious for stealing things from the men's section and making them all their own (just look at the ubiquitous boyfriend jeans). Next season it is oversized coats - similar to what we wear now, but in what look like men's sizes. Kim Kardashian is already a fan, working the "shoulder robing" (shrobing) look in an oversized Balenciaga trench before her robbery in October. Perhaps she's more fashion forward than people give her credit for.
7. Gold
Gold is not always the easiest colour to wear but for autumn, designers have turned to the darker, more forgiving shades of saffron and burnt ochre. Jason Wu delivered deep golden hues in knitted jumpers and coats, along with dazzling velvet dresses and jumpsuits - a sunny solution for end-of-summer blues.
8. Bucket hats
Tired of bobble hats and beanies? If you're brave enough, there's a new hat in town: the bucket hat. Looks like the fashion powers that be have been taking inspiration from Pharrell, as these brimmed hats were all over Marc Jacobs' catwalk (above).
